Playground Inspector Certification Program

Playground equipment safety is critical to the well-being of children across our communities. As a professional responsible for improving playground safety, you play a vital role in protecting toddlers, children, and youth. By becoming a Canadian Certified Playground Inspector, you and your employer can be confident in your ability to uphold the highest standards of playground safety.

What is the Playground Inspector Certification?

Offered by the Canadian Playground Safety Institute (CPSI) and supported by the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA), this certification program ensures that you have both theoretical and practical knowledge of playground safety. The Theory and Practical courses are designed by certified instructors and offered regionally across Canada, with online options also available for each course.

Upon successful completion of both courses and passing the exams, you will be recognized as a Canadian Certified Playground Inspector (CCPI), valid for 3 years. Certification can be renewed through a simple re-certification exam.

Certification Steps

Step 1: Part I - Theory Course & Exam

Learn Canadian safety standards (CAN/CSA Z614) for playgrounds. Available online or in-person.

Step 2: Part II - Practical Course & Exam

Gain experience adapting the knowledge gained by the Theory course into inspecting playgrounds. Must be completed within 24 months of the Theory course.

After successfully completing both courses and passing the exams, you will have achieved the Canadian Certified Playground Inspector status, which remains valid for three years. Renewal is available through an online re-certification exam.
